How to open Computer instead of Libraries on Windows 8 and 8.1

Technik

Windows 8 brings a lot of improvements. But some of us just like some things how they used to be. I never really found a good way to use the Libraries feature of Windows. However, the My Computer Window may be of some more use to me.

This quick guide shows you to force the taskbar Explorer icon to open the Computer Window instead of the Libraries overview.

Change the default behavior of the Explorer icon in the Windows taskbar:

  1. Close all windows
  2. Press the shift key and, simultaneously, right click on the Explorer icon in the taskbar (first image below)
  3. Now click Properties
  4. Change the target to %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
  5. Click OK

Windows-Right-Click-Taskbar Windows-Computer-instead-of-Libriaries Windows-Computer

Click the Explorer Icon and the Computer overview should open.
